Going Home

Posted on Mon 6th Feb, 2006, 5:36pm

ISO: 400, Shutter speed: 1/15, Aperture: f/2.8,
Camera: Canon EOS 20D, Flash: None, Cropping: None,
Lens: Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 EX DC, Focal length: 33mm,
Captured: 23rd January 2006, 6:29pm,

One of the things I'm learning pretty quickly is that anything I really like, you lot all hate. And anything I'm not that fond of, you all love.

This is one of the shots that I don't like all that much. I was gathering opinions on some photos from a few people I know and I threw this picture in with the rest just to see what people thought. Almost everyone said it was their favourite so I decided to put it up.

I like the idea of the shot, the fact that the lines are almost perfectly horizontal without any Photoshop rotation and that I managed to get it at ISO 400 - hand-held, I might add.

But I think the texture on the white bricks is incredibly flat and dull, the subject isn't immediately obvious due to a bit too much blur and the overall impression is just a bit lacking somehow.

But like I say, everyone else seems to like it.

Whaddya mean you don't like it?! Great graphic quality from the bricks in the foreground leading the eye in to the lamp light. Top stuff.

Meh. S'ok I spose. Just doesn't leap off the page (or screen) the way I'd like.

Yet another great photo. The light at the top gives the image allot of depth. The cyclist almost looks like a superhero on route to some rescue, or some thing...

Yeah well, this was my fave and Bex knows best. I think it's awesome. Morning hubby ;-)

Perhaps it's Bicycle Repair Man, as featured in Monty Python, on his way to another cyclist in distress.

I once used Bicycle Repair Man as an in-game name on a couple of Unreal Tourney servers...that's only slightly tragic isn't it?!? I think the photo would "work" equally well without ze cyclist.
