After the Rain 1

Posted on Fri 20th Jan, 2006, 11:50pm

ISO: 100, Shutter speed: 1/100, Aperture: f/5.6,
Camera: Canon EOS 20D, Flash: None, Cropping: 2:1,
Lens: Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 EX DC, Focal length: 50mm,
Captured: 18th January 2006, 1:58pm,

Don't laugh, but I'm actually really proud of this one. Sometimes I take a nice photo but don't get the best out of it in pocessing and sometimes I copy someone else's idea for a photo but process it in my own way. This, however, was all me.

The bit of plastic with water droplets was the laminated edge of a council sign, attached to a lampost. It had been raining all day but the sun had just started to come out. I decided to take some shots of the street, with part of this sign in the frame when the bright blue car drove straight into the shot. All I had to do was push the button.

Then I spent a while processing it and I think I've accomplished pretty much what I saw in my head when I took the photo. I particularly like the purple and yellow splodges in the top right as, even though the colours don't go with the other side of the pic, they work well together and help to make the shot two seperate halves.

I took some more photos through this plastic, looking various ways down the street. I think I've got one more I like enough to put up, but this one's my favourite. I think it might be my favourite photo to date, frankly.

Why would we laugh? I think this is a great photo. Well done.

Another great photo. Love the unintentional 'splitscreen look'. Su-bloody-perb :)

Neat - love the colours and the sharp focus on the droplets. I didn't get it at first but now I really like it.

Nice shot as usual Jamey (how I envy you City types!) Can't for the life of me work out what processing has been done on the shot but it looks good nonethless...

Well it wasn't a massive amount of processing. The main things that made the difference were the 2:1 crop and playing with the individual RGB curves.

I really like it, just a great picture out of something that probably wouldn't have looked particularly striking to most folk walking past it. Looking at the left hand side for too long does make me feel a bit woozy however!
