Natural Self / Keno 1

Posted on Mon 24th Oct, 2005, 2:44am

ISO: 100, Shutter speed: 1/80, Aperture: f/6.3,
Camera: Canon EOS 20D, Flash: None, Cropping: None,
Lens: Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6, Focal length: 25mm,
Captured: 23 October 2005, 2:44pm,

Keno 1 is a Brighton-based producer who's currently recording stuff under the name Natural Self. He's signed to the Breakin' Bread label and he's a thoroughly nice chap to boot.

My friend Jeff (who's a proper photographer) was asked to take some publicity shots of the chap you see above and he was kind enough to let me tag along and take a few pics of my own.

I captured this one while Jeff was chatting to the guy about something or other and just like the spontaneity of it. Most of the proper shots were quite serious so this one stood out among all the others I took.

We did do some pics with him not wearing the jacket, so you have his black and yellow striped jumper against the yellow background, which looks nice but all the photos I got of it looked quite moody.

That's a very natural pose. The problem I find with spontaneous shots is that you often end up capturing people looking very... silly. Here though you've got a great shot.

Thank you Sierro. It's not totally natural as his left hand has been caught mid pocket insertion but I thought his expression works well enough to draw your eye away from it.

Aye - great shot with spot on exposure. Rather fab background too \O>

I honestly have no idea what it is about this that I like. A great capture, maybe the expression on his face, or the angle it is shot, but regardless I think the composition is spot on, the background is bright and takes up most of the scene, but still does not distract from the subject:) Excellent

Great use of colour and space. Did you notice the stripes in his shirt match the background before you took it? >>Best site design I've seen in ages too :-)

Jamey, Tue 25th Oct, 2005, 5:27pm
Thank you. Yeah the stripes pick out the background really well. We noticed it after a few test shots.
