Bubbles

Posted on Sun 23rd Oct, 2005, 12:51am

ISO: 100, Shutter speed: 1/320, Aperture: f/4.5,
Camera: Canon EOS 20D, Flash: None, Cropping: Minor,
Lens: Canon EF 50mm f/1.8, Focal length: 50mm,
Captured: 22nd October 2005, 3:13pm,

There's a market near Trafalgar Square and one of the stalls sells bubble guns and these wand things that make huge bubbles. The people that work on the stall stand out in the street demonstrating and loads of passing kids run over and start popping the bubbles.

Just up the road there was a group of people protesting about the regime in China and I think this girl must have been the duaghter of one of the protesters because she spent ages running after bubbles. In the photo above she's trying to blow the bubble inside out which makes a bubble inside the bubble (if that makes sense). One of the girls that worked on the stall showed her how to do it.

Obviously you have to be careful photographing kids in public but there were tonnes of people standing around with their cameras out doing the same thing so I figured I was on safe ground.

I chatted to one of the guys that works on the bubble stall. It turns out he'd just bought the same camera as me and was a keen gig photographer. He has his own site so go take a look at his stuff.

I got a few more nice shots of this girl and I'm sure I'll post at least one of them sometime in the future.

Now this I like; her expression, and the similar colours in her jacket and the balloon. Nice use of rectangles too.

Nice shot, like the appearance of fixation on the girls focus, as though nothing could distract her from what she's trying to do :) Great work

This is a unique shot, you should be proud of it. I'm a little too timid for street photography!

very pleasing! Love the contrast between the light and colour of the girl and bubble set against flat grey paving stones.Glad you didn't crop it too tightly for that reason!
