BDC V Week: Cos I'm Worth It

BDC V Week: Keeping An Eye On Things

Posted on Wed 14th Dec, 2005, 3:29am

ISO: 100, Shutter speed: 1/50, Aperture: f/3.5,
Camera: Canon EOS 20D, Flash: None, Cropping: Panoramic,
Lens: Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 EX DC, Focal length: 24mm,
Captured: 10th December 2005, 1:02pm,

There was a fairly big protest march in the middle of Brighton last Saturday. Big enough to get its own helicopter and quite a lot of police vans/officers/etc.

We ran into the march about three times at various places around the centre. This photo was taken as we got to the end of a road and they were crossing our path. There was a lot of grafitti to the right and I initially started trying to use that in the shots but it wasn't working. Then I noticed this guy standing there watching the people walk past so I took a couple of frames.

I like the slight repetition between him and the policeman. Also the mood. It feels like the old guy's in control somehow. A bit like G-Man in the Half-Life games, if that's not too nerdy a reference (which it probably is).

He does seem very "overseer" like doesn't he! Nice capture.

Overseer... That's the word I was looking for. Thank you.

Do you know what the march was about?

Jamey, Wed 14th Dec, 2005, 11:57am
It was something to do with Amnesty International. I'm not entirely sure what though.

Good title. Sums it up. As you say, there is the repetition between the subject and the policeman which is nicely observed. I do find the graffiti slightly distracting on this one though.
