Untitled #35

Owen & Alan

Posted on Mon 27th Nov, 2006, 11:24am

ISO: 400, Shutter speed: 1/250, Aperture: f/11,
Camera: Canon EOS 20D, Flash: Off-camera, Cropping: Minor,
Lens: Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L, Focal length: 35mm,
Captured: 18th November 2006, 4:41pm,

These chaps were extremely good models. I tried a few shots with available light but wasn't happy with how they looked so when everyone else (JW / DJN) had finished, I stayed behind and asked them if they'd mind me taking a few shots with flash. They were very happy to pose.

i quite like your photos and words. this photo shows me a nice side of these men. They are so colourful and the eyes are quite direct. nice... ~S.

have you seen the film Adam & Paul? that is what i thought of immediately when i saw this photo :)

Jamey, Mon 27th Nov, 2006, 12:47pm
Nope, not seen it. Is it good?

chris, Mon 27th Nov, 2006, 2:19pm
yeah its fantastic, about 2 homeless guys, (younger than owen & alan), a day in thier lives

dotun, Mon 27th Nov, 2006, 2:28pm
Nice shot, colors are perfect.

Arg, I wish i had the oportunity to do portraits like this. I really can't get the nack of walking up to people and asking if I could snap them. Nice one tho, i love the expressions

Mal, Mon 27th Nov, 2006, 3:28pm
Good work Jamey, I like the fact that you have captured them together, giving the impression of great friendship. Mal

Suby, Mon 27th Nov, 2006, 3:41pm
Jamey, their expressions just leave me cracking up in stiches. I call this a VERY BRITISH CAPTURE, Suby

Great shot jamie of the fast becoming celebrity homeless blokes!

good call on the flash.

Jide Alakija, Mon 27th Nov, 2006, 8:39pm
Jamey, nice work. I'm just a bit uncomfortable with the eyes.

Jamey, Mon 27th Nov, 2006, 9:31pm
You're not the only one to mention the eyes, Jide. Can you tell me why?

jt, Mon 27th Nov, 2006, 9:36pm
Nice one J but I have to agree with Jide about the eyes. They seem to look a little flat.

Jonathan, Mon 27th Nov, 2006, 10:31pm
The guys eyes on the left are freaky, that flat brown colour. Nice portraits, good work on the lighting.

milou, Mon 27th Nov, 2006, 10:57pm
Very effective - must admit the eyes do lack a 'highlight' but that's a tiny point.

Jon Swainson, Tue 28th Nov, 2006, 9:34am
I agree with other people about the eyes. The guy on the left is the worst one. The lack of a catch light makes his eyes seem flat and lifeless. The thing I like about low light flash photography is the way you can get the background exposure right. The clouds look great as a background.

Sysagent, Thu 30th Nov, 2006, 12:21pm
Great amount of detail and good exposure, but yeh the eyes look just kind of like wierd almost glass like.

Jamey, Thu 30th Nov, 2006, 12:52pm
Ah, so it's catchlights you're all missing. I guess that's a personal thing but I hate them with a passion most of the time. In this instance I removed them deliberately.

Pavel, Fri 8th Dec, 2006, 2:11am
Great clarity in the faces

Tom Jarvis, Tue 19th Jun, 2007, 2:57pm
Hmmmm like the pic, but again I find the eyes a little freaky. Almost as if they were painted in afterwards.

hey i think you should turn to be a professional photographer. i can see lots of shots being photoshoped? however it acheives great results!
