Derelict Bathtub By Night

Posted on Tue 15th Nov, 2005, 7:58pm

ISO: 1600, Shutter speed: 1/4, Aperture: f/2.8,
Camera: Canon EOS 20D, Flash: None, Cropping: Minor,
Lens: Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 EX DC, Focal length: 18mm,
Captured: 15th November 2005, 7:20pm,

Snappy title, eh? It's the best I could think of. As you can see I have another addition to my ongoing 'orange series' of shots.

Spurred on by all your kind comments on yesterday's shot (cheers guys) I took my camera out of the bag at every opportunity today but none of the daytime stuff was as good as this. I spotted it on my walk home. There were railings round it (part of a building site I think) so I poked the lens through the railings, twisted the camera sideways to try to steady it in position, pressed the button, let it autofocus and held it down for four or five shots hoping for the best.

In the end I think using the railings to steady it woked quite well as I can't see any significant motion blur on the hi-res pics. So there's a top tip for the rest of you. Jam lens through railings. Twist to steady. Jam and twist. I'm officially coining the phrase.

Great shot. Lots of details I like about it, including the shadows across the tub, and the stuff stacked against the back wall. And I can already picture the ads with "jam & twist."

Has a nice surreal quality to the lighting. n1

That looks like a scene from HL2, a nice shot.
