Jesus Is...

Posted on Wed 13th Sep, 2006, 5:51pm

ISO: 100, Shutter speed: 1/250, Aperture: f/1.4,
Camera: Canon EOS 20D, Flash: Fill, Cropping: 16:9,
Lens: Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L, Focal length: 35mm,
Captured: 9th September 2006, 5:44pm,

I think this is one of my favourites so far, so feel free to tear it apart and tell me it's overexposed :)

The guy was preaching in camden at the weekend and seemed completely indifferent to having his photo taken.

The texture is pilfered from elsewhere once again. I really need to make an effort to shoot some more textures of my own.

I like this except the part where his hand blends with the texture at the top right.

I agree with Jide on the hand, but I must say the exposure is not an issue for me here. I think it works VERY well in fact with the mood of the subject. Great shot Jamey.

I'm a huge fan of your portraits and it think it's your strongest work (excluding trollies in airports.net) but I'm not keen on the texture blending. Sorry old bean and all that. But...that's a relatively minor point. The actual photograph is nicely exposed and I'm lead straight to his ZZ Top face. Personally I don't find the "textured hand" a distraction but I think the negative space around is very important as it concentrates on him as a person.

Nice processing overall. I don't like the hand on the right. I also wish the words on his shirt were clearly visible and not obscured. Very nice.

Hmm... I think you might all be right about the hand. I'll re-do it tomorrow (don't have PSD here with me atm) and might also do a mono untextured version just for milou :)

I love the overexposure, it makes him seem like he has a divine message! I like the texture, too, I keep meaning to try that myself.

I like what micki's said - the light does imply something divine (and I don't mean the singer).

Nice colour space on the processing but OMG to me it looks too bright! Also yes the hand does look a bit freaky don't it... p.s. I like the sunglasses :)

The overexposed background would work if it didn't blend into his shoulder. The texture isn't doing it for me at all. Like the viewing angle.

On looking again, I think the exposure is actually about right. It just seemed blown because he was against the sky, which was obviously brighter. Not sure what you mean about the shoulder Jon. Can you explain? Decided I can't be arsed to re-do the hand so it's staying as it is. Might mask out the texture there if I ever make a print of it but for now it doesn't really matter.

that really is great, some brilliant expression and feeling coming from this
