Title:
A Little Light On The Subject

Centre Point

Posted on Sun 6th Nov, 2005, 6:19pm

ISO: 400, Shutter speed: 1/30, Aperture: f/2.8,
Camera: Canon EOS 20D, Flash: None, Cropping: None,
Lens: Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 EX DC, Focal length: 18mm,
Captured: 4th November 2005, 5:48pm,

You can't really miss Centre Point if you're walking around the middle of London. It's the dirty great white thing sticking out of the ground near Tottenham Court Road tube station. It looks like most other highrise office blocks, I guess, but it's a fair bit taller. By London standards, anyway.

Most of the vignetting on this picture is actually from the lens, which I'm not entirely happy about. I added a little bit more just so it creates an effect, rather than just looking like a cheap(ish) lens.

The last few times I've been past Centre Point in the daytime there have been members from the Royal National Institute for the Blind abseiling down the side, however my attempts to take photos of them weren't very successful. I'm not sure if they've finished doing that now or whether it was too late in the evening when I took this pic. It's a shame though because it might've come out better in the evening.

Yet another style that I'm particularly fond of. The blue glow of the sky is particularly nice.

I once worked on the 8th floor of Centre Point. Looking down is even wierder - this bit of the West End is an archtectural mess

Ah but that's what we love about London isn't it? Victorian houses next to 1970s estates. Cultural melting pot and all that ;)

Yes, I've heard that too

To quote Neil gaiman, best place to be is on top of Centre Point, so you don't have to look at it Excellent image, captures the essence of the building - thrusting into the sky, towering over everything else. Nice.
