Untitled #10

Posted on Wed 14th Jun, 2006, 4:33pm

ISO: 100, Shutter speed: 1/50, Aperture: f/3.5,
Camera: Canon EOS 20D, Flash: None, Cropping: None,
Lens: Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L, Focal length: 35mm,
Captured: 2nd June 2006, 7:43pm,

I spent ages trying different things in Photoshop with this image before settling on this version and I still don't know if it's right but I'm sick of processing it so up it goes.

The corks were in the front window of a booze shop in Whitby and the photo was taken through the glass. The face is from a seperate photo - it's another angle of the Dracula shot I put up the other day.

Originally, I wanted to make it look like a normal reflection in the glass, but I've ended up bumping the contrast on the corks to the point where it's very hard to tell there's glass in front of them. So then I wanted to just make it look like the face was appearing from beneath the corks, but my Photoshop skills (and patience) weren't up to it. In the end I went for something halfway between reflection and emergence from corks.

I'm not sure it works but hey ho, onwards and upwards.

PS yesterday was my 200th picture posted. Forgot to mention :)

PPS Time Out London have printed one of my photos. I'll do a scan (or photo) of the page when I get a copy.

PPPS The Exif data above refers to the corks shot, not the Dracula shot which was largely Identical settings to the other one.

I have this exact shot! Dunno if I can use it for my blog or not, but hey the shot works in a way with the Alucard in it...

i love the corks and i reckon you should of just left them on thier own, its a great picture like that

chris - you may well be right tbh. I did originally approach it as a shot on its own but it looked a bit 'corporate' to me, like the front cover of a trade magazine for the wine industry. However, I don't think the Dracula thing works as well as it might. It's a bit thoughtless and random, if I'm honest.

I think the drac part makes it in my opinion, very weird. I like it anyhoo, although yeah it would have been good just with the corks... but like I said much better with drac there.

Well, I am surprised. I saw you take this and I thought there's no shot in that but it's great. I'm not a huge fan of vignettes but it works well here and concentrates the image, the contrast and the textures. Personally I think it'll be better without the Count.

I think the effect with Dracula is a nice touch. Great work Jamey!

Intersting...though I would have preferred it with out the dracula face on it....but it's an interesting slant on the shot.

You have a great sense of humour. I like the photo as it is, the Dracula thing works very well, even if it doesn't look like a reflection, without it the photo would be a bit boring.

Weird shot but works well, I think.
