A Little Tweak

Posted on Mon 13th Feb, 2006, 5:24pm

ISO: 100, Shutter speed: 1/3, Aperture: f/5.6,
Camera: Canon EOS 20D, Flash: Wireless, Cropping: None,
Lens: Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 EX DC, Focal length: 18mm,
Captured: 11th February 2006, 11:49pm,

I played at a random party in Balham on Saturday night and the chap in this photo was the other DJ (and the one who got me the gig).

I didn't really shoot that many pictures and the ones I did shoot were just messing about, to be honest. This one just appealed to me for some reason. I liked the way the shape of the light trails mirrored the shape he was making with his arm and framed it nicely. And the framing, while unusual, also looked better than I thought.

I expect this one will probably be quite subjective. I can see it from both viewpoints - on the one hand it doesn't really have any of the elements that are traditionally associated with good photographs but on the other hand... Well... I like it :)

I think centering him more with less red would be more effective. But I likes!

This is what I mean about subjectivity. I think that would destroy the shot completely. But it's all good. The world would be a boring place if we all thought the same.

Full of energy (and I last went to a disco -oh yes- in about 1982).I love the off-centre position - adds a certain dynamic and the light trails are simple but work. Nice space for an advertising message :o

If you mean the big expanse of red space to the right, that would be a wall, Sys. You do have walls in Yorkshire, right? ;)

I had just typed a nice soulful chunk of a comment, when I submitted it told me I had exceeded the amount of characters and when I cam back it had dissappeared!!! I'll be blowed if I'm gonna re-type that again. Humph

Sorry :( There must be a mismatch between the character restriction on the input box and the amount of characters the comment submission script checks for. I'll take a look.
